It is important to know the five Elements representation of Ying and Yang in the study of Bazi. The Five Elements represent the Earth’s vibrational energy.
Beginners may have the understanding of the Five Elements and identify them as some form of physical appearance. However, as you further study in Chinese Metaphysics, you will identify and interpret them asa form of vibrational energies.
The 5 Elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water

The interaction among the elements can be viewed in terms of three cycle.
- Productive cycle denotes the principle whereby each of the elements produces or enhances to another specific element
- Weakening cycle refers to the manner in which the elements drain and deplete one another.
- Controlling cycle refers to the principles by which each of the element constrains or restricts another elements.

An example of of physical representation of 5 elements are our Body organs in the context of vibration energies and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).
Five Elements Representation | Body Organs |
Wood | Liver |
Fire | Eyes and Hearts |
Earth | Stomach |
Metal | Lungs |
Water | Kidney |
We can also apply the concept of Five Element as our emotions
Five Elements Representation | Emotion |
Wood | Growth |
Fire | Passion |
Earth | Safety and Stability |
Metal | Differentiation & Analysis |
Water | Flexibility |
